May I comment about “Karmapa Chenno” mantra? I love to privately sing this mantra but with a considered deep respect and certainly not in an idle way; but I am just one follower of Karma Kagyu Tradition, so that is easy for this person. So, I kind of wonder if one needs an association with Karma Kagyu for this mantra to work within oneself; after all it is not like ‘Om Mani Peme Hum” OR “Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Peme Siddhi Hum” It seems to have an entirely different effect upon one’s own self. I wonder what your experience is of what I am suggesting, Lama Surya Das? I would be very interested to hear your comments [if any]. Thank you mauriezen.

Dear Lama Surya Das,

In 1979 or ‘80 I was your neighbor for a spell in Woodstock, living with Bob Dacey, when you were at Elizabeth’s. I am so moved to have seen your name and books come out over the years, remembering your gentleness and sweetness. I ended up being a Iiason from the monastery to the town of Woodstock for many years. I travelled from California to NYC and Woodstock to be with Karmampa 17th upon his arrival. I feel profoundly touched, changed, being with him for four days. It is a feeling I have not had in this way since being with HH 16th. Thank you for your blog, and your teachings. Perhaps I will see you along the way.

Dear Surya Das
You wrote so well and so clearly, my feelings of His Holiness Karmapa’s visit precisely. Also, the 16th Karmapa also spoke to me that the 17th Karmapa would be greater when I was alone with Him once in Rumtek. It was a very powerful moment and just as Ponlop Rinpoche mentioned He had told His father.
It was an amazing visit and an amazing blessing for me to be in HH 17th Karmapa’s presence at KTD. Obviously you had the same experience.
